Wuxi is one of the many small cities located near Shanghai that is characterized by numerous canals and ancient chinese gardens. With a booming economy, Wuxi is urbanizing rapidly. The Open Gate community center is located in a developing large residential area. The design uses components from the traditional Chinese garden to create a gardenscape that covers the ground and wraps the existing building facade. Elements such as walls, window openings, water, hills and trees are layered to give a sense of infinity, frame garden views and create harmony.
